Magic mushrooms

What are the street names for it?

Caps, mushrooms, shrooms, psilocybin, psilocin , liberty cap, mushies, sillies, boomers caps or fungus.

What type of drug is it?

Magic mushrooms are hallucinogenic mushrooms. They are normally psilocybin mushrooms, which contain traces of psilocin, a hallucinogenic drug. Hallucinogenic mushrooms are one of the most frequently used hallucinogens after LSD.

What does it look like?

They are small, brown or tan mushrooms. There are also species that look similar to magic mushrooms but which are poisonous. This makes them somewhat difficult, and potentially hazardous, to identify.

What is its history?

Native Americans in Central and South America have used Psilocybe mushrooms for thousands of years. The first European record of their use was in the 16th century writings of a Spanish priest who wrote about the Aztec's use of both mushrooms and peyote. In 1957, ethnobotanist R. Gordon Wasson became the first in modern times to document and publish a description of his own experience (Life Magazine).

How is it used?

The average dose of mushrooms is 1-5 grams. They are eaten raw, dried, cooked in food, or stewed into a tea. Because of the loss of pleasant taste, they are often mixed with other foods or drinks.

What are the effects?

Magic mushrooms have similar effect to LSD, but the trip is often milder and shorter. Can make users feel very relaxed and "spaced-out". The effects depend on the user's mood , where they are and who they are with. Magic mushrooms may cause hallucinations - objects, colors, and sound become distorted. A trip tends to last about 4 hours. As with LSD, depending on the general mood of the user, bad trips can occur. Magic mushrooms often cause stomach pains, sickness and diarrhoea. At higher does, users may experience lightheadedness, numbness of the tongue, lips or mouth, shivering or sweating, nausea and/or vomiting, and anxiety.
